For the past several years the Village has faced increased challenges in developing budgets that maintain the level of services that residents want and expect while keeping taxes at what is considered a reasonably acceptable level. The major fiscal issues faced by the Village in the past few years include the decline in certain non-real estate tax revenues due to economic factors, increases in certain expenses not in the Village222s control, at least in the short term, and the decline in the overall value of the Village222s tax base due to reassessments of certain properties. The Village has responded to these challenges through across the board belt tightening as well as the deferral where possible of capital spending.
